Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart as it cooks. Cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes), then drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom, followed by half of the beef mixture. Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, beef mixture, and cheese.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- For extra cheesiness, add an extra ½ cup of cheese on top before the final bake.
- Swap cheddar cheese for mozzarella or Monterey Jack for a different flavor profile.
- To make this dish creamier, mix ½ cup of heavy cream into the beef broth before pouring it in.
- If you want to save time, pre-cook the potato slices for 5 minutes in boiling water to speed up baking.
