Description

A classic British dish featuring crispy battered fish served with golden chips and mushy peas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pieces white fish fillets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water
  • 4 cups frozen chips
  • 2 cups peas
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the fryer or a pot of oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour and baking powder, then gradually add the sparkling water to create a batter.
  3. Dip the fish fillets in the batter and carefully lower them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. In another pot, boil the peas for about 3-5 minutes until tender, then drain and mash them with butter and salt.
  5. Cook the frozen chips according to package instructions until crispy.
  6. Serve the fish with chips and mushy peas on the side.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add lemon juice to the mushy peas.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to ensure crispy results.
